What is the difference between Motor Protecton Circuit Breaker (MPCB) and Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)?

Motor protection circuit breaker, used to protect the motor, has short circuit and overload protection functions, and effectively protects the motor. In MPCB, these is no cat. A/B Configuration. MPCB has built-in contactors and relays. Therefore no external contactors and relays are required. It's setting range is from 0.01A to 32A.

Molded case circuit breaker with overload and short circuit protection with high breaking capacity for industrial applications. It's operation current range is from 16A to 1600A.

MPCB is only used for motor protection, while MCCB is used in various industrial applications including motors. It has extended functions when working with appliances like contactor, O/L relays, earth leakage module, etc.

Shendian Electric provides good quality and well packed circuit breaker to give customers a suitable and safe choice for different occasions.

What makes motorized loads require special protection from MPCB rather than general MCCB protection?

For motor protection circuit breaker, it has an short circuit current of Ir=12In while it's Ir=10In in MCCB.

Also, most motor burnouts are due to single phase operation where one phase burns out, causing the motor to overheat and eventually burn out. As a dedicated protection device (unlike general MCCB), the MPCB is able to handle the fault by isolating the motor by its own when a phase current imbalance is induced. If you want to achieve the same function by MCCB with more safety concern, connect it with a voltage regulator.
